Healthy Sleep
Sleeping well is one of the most important components in a healthy lifestyle. Good sleep benefits us in many ways by boosting our immune systems, giving our bodies time to regenerate and heal, and helping us to manage stress. People who do not sleep well are clinically proven to become ill more easily, heal more slowly, and even to drive erratically.
There are physical conditions that make good sleep very hard to come by for sufferers. Our wool bedding can help.
Hot Flashes and Night Sweats
Many people experience night sweats and hot flashes in their lifetimes, usually associated with Menopause and Peri-menopause, or other hormonal triggers such as pregnancy, diabetes, or growth spurts. Night sweats can be challenging for those who have them, leaving the sleeper cold, wet, clammy and uncomfortable. These symptoms can be alleviated by selecting the correct material to sleep under. Wool's moisture wicking properties cause moisture to be wicked away from the sleeper and then released into the environment. This helps those with night sweats and cold flashes to stay at a comfortable temperature throughout the night, while remaining dry.
A wool filled duvet covered in a breathable cotton or bamboo cover would be the first choice to improve menopausal sleep. If your mattress is foam (especially memory foam) a superwash wool mattress overlay (basically a mattress cover) will dramatically reduce overheating, thus increasing the quality of sleep.
Asthma
Asthma sufferers have different triggers, which usually include environmental triggers such as dust mites and chemical off-gassing into their environment. Many poly-filled bedding products and beds off-gas constantly. This is proven to cause respiratory problems in healthy people, as well as aggravating existing respiratory conditions such as asthma. Chemically compromised bedding also creates a hospitable environment for dust mites and other irritants such as mold and fungi, which compound health problems.
Our all natural wool bedding is inhospitable to those irritants, and of course does not off-gas chemicals, helping those who suffer from respiratory ailments to sleep better.
Spinal Health
Supporting your head and neck while you sleep is important not just for a good sleep, but for your overall back and spinal health. A good pillow gently supports your neck and head in a neutral position. This will help to keep your spine in correct alignment while you sleep.
