Wool has been used for tens of thousands of years in textiles, keeping people warm and dry throughout the ages. So how does wool work? Wool creates air pockets that keep the temperature of the sheep consistent, no matter what the weather is doing. It also wicks away moisture and evaporates it out into the environment, while discouraging the growth of fungus, molds, and the allergy sufferers nightmare; the common dust mite.
Our duvets are manufactured in North Vancouver from huge bales of wool that are rolled out by the batting machine to the desired weight and loft, placed between sheeting made of either cotton or bamboo, and quilted together using an 'open' quilting style. The pattern that we use to quilt the sheeting and wool together has been carefully designed to prevent shifting of the wool layer, while maintaining the loft of the wool.
The pillows are made with wool knops, which are tiny balls of wool that have been wound around themselves in order to keep the wool from felting, unlike other wool pillows, which felt over time. This creates a structured pillow that is supportive, while remaining soft and comfortable, and laundering well. The knops are blown into cotton or bamboo zippered pillow cases in order to allow the sleeper to adjust the firmness and loft of the pillow to their preference.
We use Superwash wool to manufacture our overlays. It is completely machine washable, and does not felt. The wool overlays help to protect sleepers from chemicals in their mattresses, increase airflow in the bed, and adds a pillow-like softness. It also serves to protect your mattress, increasing the lifespan of your sleep set, while improving the quality of your sleep.
